Hitting the Mark

Dart board

Image via Wikipedia

Do you ever get tired of the feeling that your prayers are going nowhere?

A couple days ago my husband got a hold of this little laser light. Gary got to playing with this laser and it was strong enough to shine on our neighbor’s house. He thought it was funny to tease their cat that sleeps on the porch, on a railing by their front door. Then he saw that the doorbell wasn’t too far from the cat that was batting at the red light the laser was producing. So he thought it would be fun to have their cat ring their door bell. Some men never grow up! So basically my husband was trying to teach their cat to hit a very small target, their doorbell, but the cat couldn’t seem to reach his target.

This reminded me of a lesson the Lord taught me in a fun and unexpected way. My husband Gary and I decided we would play a game of darts. We have the electronic dart board set up in our house and every once in a while we would have a friendly competition. I always lose, because I am not skilled at dart throwing. Well this evening we were playing a game where you had to hit the exact space equal to the points you needed to go out of the game. So if I needed to win the game with 3 points I had to hit that exact spot. I can usually keep up, in the game, but I can’t for the life of me direct the dart to hit the exact mark.

This night I won five games straight. I could not miss the last number and for some reason I was getting divine help. It took me a couple games to realize that I was divinely being helped but every time it would get to the last number I needed, everything would go still and like in slow motion the dart I threw would go right into the slot that was needed for me to win. My husband was completely taken off guard, as was I and of course I didn’t tell him that something supernatural was helping me until the next day because honestly a woman needs to gloat at least one night!

You may be wondering what this lesson was about. Well honestly I was too, until a few weeks later the Lord showed me as we pray with His mind and from His perspective the dart of our prayers never misses the mark.

So often we are tempted and do pray with our own understanding and what we think should be an outcome. This can sometimes be effective because we want something positive to happen and the grace of God. However, when we tune in to the Holy Spirit and ask Him what we should pray or when we are in worship and we feel a stillness and weightiness of the glory and we pray from that perspective those prayers hit the mark dead on.

My challenge to you is to look at a difficult circumstance and wait on the Lord until you know you have His heart. Then release that arrow of faith right into the situation and see what our Lord can do. I promise your prayers are going to hit the mark and you are going to feel an intimacy with the Father as a result of this time devoted to know Him and His purposes. You also are going to get a real boost to your prayer life as you get filled up with a creative spirit as you pray.

Take the Limits off

Reflection in eye. Looking up at the ceiling o...

What do you wish for Me to do for you? If you could ask the Lord for anything what would you wish for Him to do for you?

In Matthew 20 the blind men on the side of the road were crying out to Jesus for mercy. The Lord could see they were blind men but He still asked, “What do you wish for Me to do for you?” Their reply was, “Lord we want our eyes to be opened.”
This morning I was thinking even though I am not physically blind, that would still be my answer. “Lord open my eyes, Yes I can see but spiritually right now I need to see like I have never seen before. I can hear in my spirit so strongly, take the limits off.” The Lord wants us to see… see into the spirit realm and call what is not into being. He wants us to walk with eyes wide open. He wants us to break through the limited way we view a situation and see all kinds of possibilities. He wants us to see Him and all His glory everywhere we look. It is time to see!

This Easter weekend we had the opportunity to partner with a group that ministers to street people of Spokane, an area that’s been marked by a degree of darkness. I was so excited to be a part of this event and God is doing amazing things through these people who have laid down their lives to serve the homeless and hurting. I had an opportunity to minister to a couple who wanted to be prophesied over. The woman was in a wheel chair and I could tell she had very little muscle control but seemed to be really enjoying herself. We prayed with her and then turned to her husband and he said, “Don’t worry about me, I have received the one prayer I have prayed to the Lord and I won’t ask Him for anything else.” His one prayer was for time to spend with his wife. Obviously the Lord had spared her life and they were able to have a life together, he was so thankful.
This couple’s story sounds sweet but something went off in my spirit and I immediately laid hands on this man because do you honestly think the Lord wanted him to ask Him for one thing and never ask again? This man needed his eyes opened and the limits he had put on his relationship with God removed.

Have you put limits on God? Do you really believe that He can and will give you the desires of  your heart? Do you believe that He wants to open our eyes to a realm that anything is possible. Then we need our minds renewed and we need to have our senses touched by the Spirit so we can boldly go where no man has gone before, or at least see greater possibilities.

The Lord loves to show His children that nothing is too hard for Him. I challenge you to ask Him to break the limits off  your life, you will be glad you did!

If this message has blessed you send it on to a friend.

True Unity (part 1)

I see so many today asking and trying to develop unity and apprehend the fruit of unity.  I have spent many years praying, studying and investing into building unity only to discover more than I ever thought possible as well as the incredible spectrum we have to define unity.

In a recent quiet time the Lord began to show me His heart of unity that is to be our heart of unity. Unity is an issue of the Father‘s heart.  Therefore any attempt at unity that doesn’t understand the Father’s heart and the nature of covenant isn’t going to have unity.  My question to the Lord was how is this possible that we can be “unified” on so many levels and yet divided on just as many.  We throw a phrase around like “we agree to disagree.”  We agree one moment only to disagree the next, we stand together, we stand apart, we build each other up to then tear each other down.  We slap the word unity on this type of relationship and live thinking we are unified.  Let me stop here and just say that this is an issue of my heart and where the Lord is leading me, not a judgment on anyone else.  But can I encourage you to allow the Holy Spirit to stir this issue up on your heart?  Are you really living in the Spirit of Unity?

As I sat with the Lord He began to expand on this subject in a way that I haven’t personally experienced.  I’ll share more in the coming weeks but let me submit this part to you.  If our current understanding of unity allows for this psychotic behavior, is this the true unity of the Father’s heart?  You’d be right in saying “no”.  We know and recognize this yet what are we doing to change it?  So then what is this form of life really called?  Apart from psychotic and disturbing, it’s philosophical. Philosophy by definition is designed to allow many “schools of thought” to be entertained at one time while remaining open to possibilities beyond our understanding.  Great, but the issue of unity is not a school of thought that can be debated when it comes to the Father.  He is very clear on the topic and expression of unity.  Most of what we have heard in the past about the church and unity needs to be restored and redeemed by allowing the supremacy and sovereignty of Jesus to rule our lives.  Not our philosophical rhetoric we spew out in an attempt to define and justify our Christian living habits and group alignments.   We are one in Christ!

Paul in his letter to the Colossians is dealing with what I believe the Holy Spirit is trying to deal with in Body of Christ today:  Philosophy, empty deceit, traditions of men, and principles of the world not according to Christ that we slap a label of unity on whenever someone joins our camp.  Col 2:8-10: Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.  For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;  and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. NKJV

Wow, what a revelation!

Go and read chapter 1 of Colossians and take note of how Paul starts to deal with the issue of false unity.  He does so by bringing forth revelation of Jesus Christ that you can’t help but be caught up in His glory and from there we can start to get understanding about the unity of the Father’s heart.

A Fresh Start

Citrus Cutie

Have you ever wanted a clean slate?

The Lord has shown me two different pictures when I have been praying lately. The first picture was a slate wiped clean by the blood of Jesus. Then the most recent picture was of a wall that was light gray and it looked like a fresh slate ready for decoration. In the last few weeks when I have been asked to pray with people the Lord keeps showing me people who either can’t let go and start over or people who are just about to walk into a fresh start.

In my life I have had opportunity to have a clean slate, my past wiped clean and a fresh beginning in both my spiritual life and physical life with the Lord wiping away a business debt of thousands.

This morning the Lord brought to mind a word I got a few months back about a fresh start.

Today is a day of new beginnings; it is not just a new day of the month it is a new start. Many are asking for a do-over. They are discontent with how certain things have gone and today they get a fresh start. Many are waiting, “waiting for what?” Start today; start now, that which has been in the back of your mind.

Fresh start could mean, “Because I blew it,” in your mind. In My mind, I just want you to start without baggage. Let the load go. Let the anniversary of the death of the old thing be done and now you embark on a new future.

No looking back, again I say, “No looking back.” “How do I do that?” Looking back brings with it regrets and what-ifs? Today is a fresh beginning; a time to tune in to Me; A time for the leading of the Spirit; a time of the supernatural. Do not despise small beginnings; I am stirring up desire for more. I am releasing you to come up higher. I am releasing a perspective that will cause even a change of climate.

The Lord has great plans for us and some of us are getting a fresh start, with a clean slate. This doesn’t happen in the world, there is always someone holding your past over your head, but with the Lord, all things are possible. So reach out and take what He is willing to give you; a clean slate and a fresh start.

“I know the plans I have for you,” announces the Lord. “I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come. 12 Then you will call out to me. You will come and pray to me. And I will listen to you. 13 When you look for me with all your heart, you will find me. Jeremiah 29:11-13.

Seed into the Glory

Worship During Vertical Window's Set

This Sunday we purposed in our hearts to press into worship with all our hearts. As we focused on Him, the Magnificent One, the glory fell and at one point I could feel it rest upon my shoulders. I don’t know about you but when the glory falls is when I receive greater revelation. So I love this place of clarity we enter into as we draw closer to Him.

During this time of intensity in worship the Lord impressed on my heart that it was a time to create with our words. It is time to speak into our future. It is time to call those who we love out of bondage. It is time to speak to the nations, to hear the voice of God.

Years ago we were worshiping at Mountain Top and we went into this time of declaration. It was a simple song that came from the heart of God. To someone who does not understand when you are in the glory words are creative it probably sounded foolish. We lifted our voices and sang out, “Come home, come home,” this lasted for quite a while; just this simple phrase being lifted up in declaration.

I can remember thinking to myself, who are we calling home? After service that evening, we hadn’t been home even maybe a half hour when we heard a knock at our door. When I opened the door, a young girl was standing there and she said, “Will you take me home?” This girl had run away about three weeks earlier and she felt like she was to go home. She started walking down the street and when she saw our light she felt she was to come to our house and we would take her home.

I have no doubt that our worship created an atmosphere that brought this girl back home to her family. I know that the “Light of Christ” was shining on our house and the Holy Spirit guided this girl to safety, through us but also as a testimony of what can be accomplished in the glory.

On Sunday the Lord reminded me to create once again in the glory. To worship with a focus on Him and then seed into the future with our words.

Ask the Lord to demonstrate His power through you. He will give you the words to create, for your future and for others, even words for the nations.

Runways & Landing Pads Part IV (Final)

DeLorean DMC-12

Image via Wikipedia

Caution: Just a quick mention that I ramble a little bit below, but I mean well by it. Without going into crazy detail, I want to unpack some of my thoughts on Ephesians 2:6-7. My hope is you’ll feel a greater freedom to participate and receive a real healing.

So how do we go back in the past and shut down these demonic influences? Ephesians 2:6-7 says,

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Instead of going into great detail about whether were seated in the heavenly places when we die, or if were seated with him in heaven now, I’ll tell let the cat out of the bag and tell you what I believe. If we consider the dimension of time, it’s my belief we are seated in heavenly realms with Christ the moment we ask him to become our Lord and Savior. In other words, that means our heavenly citizenship begins at the point of salvation, not only when die and go to heaven. I believe Christ’s teachings are consistent with this radical view. We can see evidence of this view in Jesus’ expectations of his disciples. In Matthew 10, Mark 16, and Luke 10 Jesus deputizes his disciples to heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, and cleanse lepers. The origin of these standards must be heavenly, as we know death and sickness to be part of every day life. He literally gives power and authority to common men to bring the standards of heaven to earth. Did you get that? Jesus challenges his disciples to bring heaven’s standards, laws, precepts, and principles to earth before they ever have a chance to experience them in heaven first. Not only does he challenge us to do that, but he gives us the resources by giving his authority and access to the Father.

Part of going back into your past and shutting down demonic influences over you and your family line is about you truly discovering who you are in the Father’s eyes. We have to understand that God is not bound by time… and if were seated with him in heavenly places right now, we are also not bound by time. Under the leading of Holy Spirit we have access and authority to tear down and destroy (2 Cor 10:3-5) spiritual strongholds (past, present, and future). It’s kind of like God has given us the keys to his time traveling DeLorean, gives us date and time coordinates, and when we arrive at our destination we have every resource we need to deal with what we find.

Next week I’ll post a video… we’ll pray for your freedom and break through! Shoot, Skype me and I’ll pray with you personally!

Christ Our Peace!

Sower - Rooted

The Lord has given us everything we could ever need by choosing to dwell in us, with us and upon us.  Yet our flesh cries out for the world and the nature of the world.  This constant tension becomes a frustration that creates spiritual turbulence.  It is in this spiritual turbulence that we then become spiritually nauseas and then comes the vomiting.  Many are sensing the shaking that is going on both in the natural as well as the spiritual.  We are seeing the bible fulfilled right before our very eyes – earthquakes, famines, disease and the love of many growing cold (Matthew 24:7-14).  Turn on the news and it becomes quite clear that we are experiencing turbulence.

Exposure to prolonged turbulence is unsettling to the stomach and the senses.  It ultimately affects our lives and the condition of our relationship with obedience.  We get to the point where we don’t want to do anything but have it all stop.  Maybe this is where you are at right now in you your life, marriage, job or faith.  It’s in this time that a dangerous thing begins to take place; we take our eyes off of Jesus and put them on the things that are creating the turbulence and try to gain some sense of control.  This is when the vomiting starts – we start gossiping, backbiting, slandering, coveting, complaining, doubting, etc.

In the Lord’s provision to His sons and daughters the Prince of Peace is to settle our stomachs – natural and spiritual.  He is our sure foundation of hope.  Though everything is going to be shaken – He can’t be shaken?  What becomes discouraging for many believers, including myself, is how much is still being shaken within us.  All that I thought was Him and immovable is being revealed as more me than Him.  Yet the promise holds true that He will never leave us nor abandon us.  So we do what any good pilot does when they get into turbulence – change altitude.  You find that air space that is at rest.

Christ is the only resting place we have.  We learn to create an atmosphere where there is no effect of the turbulence of the world upon us. We do this by living in a place of thanksgiving and praise.  It is in our praise and thanksgiving that we find the abiding presence of God inhabiting us.  It is in His air space that the spiritual nausea is settled and the vomiting is non-existent.

So if you find yourself vomiting due to the spiritual nausea – you might consider changing altitude by remembering all the benefits you have inherited through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Eph 2:13-18  But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  For He Himself is our peace . . . thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. NKJV

Lean Into Your Future

Around our house it is not unusual for little squabbles to break out over odd things. I have two grandsons, one who is 6 and the other who is 3. They remind me of two bear cubs, always in each others space and usually wrestling. Chase is the youngest and he really looks up to his big brother, Braden. The other day Chase had decided it was time to wear Braden’s underwear. He was not going to put on his own underwear no matter what I said. I tried enticing him with Spiderman, Transformers and Star Wars underwear, but nothing was working. He had his heart set on his brother’s new underwear that was plain blue.  When I asked Chase why he wanted to wear those underwear he said, “Because I am bigger now.”

Chase is always looking to do the next thing, he doesn’t ever go backwards. He has a focus on what he sees as his future and if it means wearing the boring, over-sized underwear, so be it.

The Lord has been speaking to me about leaning into the future. There are those who think they can stay in the same place, when in reality they are going backwards. To get where we need to go, it takes stamina, it takes purpose and it takes standing up for something when it is not popular.

Where I worship at Mountain Top in Yakima, WA we have had to pursue freedom. We have been ridiculed and many come just to turn around and leave because it takes a real effort to lean into what the Lord has called us into. However, we have leaned into this worship with all we have so others can come easily into a prophetic environment. When you worship with us it is common to have visions, prophetic words or pieces of a puzzle come into place for what the Lord has given you.

For me there is no choice but to lean into pursuing God with all I have. The more closely I try to follow Him, the more the hunger builds for more of His presence. As I press ever closer to Him, the more confirmations I receive that I am on the right path and that His presence has gone before me.
So, like Chase, if it takes me wearing a garment that is too big yet, so be it, I am not taking my eyes off of my future, in fact I am going to lean into it with all I have.

2 Timothy 4:7 (Contemporary English Version)

I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful.

This is my course, let’s lean into our future together.

Blessings,

Dreams & Visions

Image of the top layers of the earth's atmosph...

Image via Wikipedia

I will have Dreams and Visions…
I will dream the blueprints of heaven.
I will dream and know the plans of the enemy.
I do hold the thoughts and the dreams of
His heart inside of me.
My dreams will help fulfill His dreams.
Our dreams are intertwined.

I’m a visionary at heart. I need goals set before me.
Without goals and dreams before me I get depressed.
I have been feeling like the Lord is saying write down
declarations on paper. Hab.2:2

The above paragraph is one of my declarations that I have
Written down on a large piece of paper that rests on a easel in
My room. I have set it before me.

Even though I’ve done this many times in the past there seems
To be a strong word now from the Lord to declare.
What we declare will make things manifest.
The seed of the dream that is planted inside of me will grow
As I release it into the atmosphere.
I’ve heard someone say, ”Your dreams will chase you.” I use to
Think that I had to chase my dreams. I’m beginning to
Understand if our dreams are His dream they are chasing us.

I’ve had many dreams on my journey with the Lord over the last 30 yrs.
As I matured the things that I dreamed about changed.
For a time it was my dreams that carried me through the low points of my life.
It seems lately that most of my dreams have evolved into something different.

Example… In my earlier years I wanted to plan parties
For people. Things like children’s birthday parties, anniversary parties,
Etc. I loved creating an atmosphere. I was awesome
At throwing parties for church events, and often people would
Say, “Nancy you really know how to create an atmosphere.
Then one day the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said,
“Whatever you put your hands to I can prophecy through.”
I had to grow into that word… and I’m still growing!
I just love hearing what God is saying through the Holy Spirit!

Now when I listen and come into agreement with God, it creates an atmosphere.
It literally creates the word that God is speaking.
God has called me to be an atmosphere changer.
This is His dream and mine intertwining.
As I’ve grown closer to my Father what I once thought
Was just my dream was His dream too.

A dreamer and atmosphere changer.

Nancy

Year of the Seer — Part 2

In the coming season of authority we must keep our soul clean. Based on the Hebrew calendar, this coming Jewish new year (September 8, 2010) marks the year of the Seer. So the question is how do we prepare, experience, and live in this season of history?

Experience: The truth is that God is wildly involved in our lives and speaking in unprecedented ways. We must choose now how we will engage our supernatural God. It’s never been enough for Christians to live vicariously through Paul, Peter, and other heroes of our faith. Imagine for a minute a father leaving the family business to his child. The father would raise the child by teaching with words, showing in action, and training by giving tasks. How would the father feel if his child just re-lived stories about the good ol’ days when dad was around, but never actually did the work he prepared for them to do? By revelation of Holy Spirit Peter quotes the Prophet Joel saying,

‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
      and they will prophesy.
19I will show wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20The sun will be turned to darkness
      and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
 21And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Peter is quoting the Prophet Joel to a mystified group of Jews who just witnessed what we call Pentecost. Peter explains this outpouring of the Holy Spirit is a sign of “last days.” If the beginning of the last days started two thousand years ago, how much more applicable is this to us today? This prophetic declaration isn’t just fodder for an excellent theological debate, its real! We are living at the end of what Joel and Peter described as “last days.”  I used to read scripture like this and brush it off saying, “Whoa, psychedelic passage I can’t really understand without more teaching.”  But if you open your heart God is saying  through Joel, “My bride, you will experience a great acceleration in your ability to hear my heart. I will open the flood gates unlike any other time in history to speak with you. You will speak my words (prophesy), and just so people don’t think you’re crazy I will be faithful to perform miraculous signs and wonders to verify that I’ve sent you. All of this will be for the great harvest of people I refuse to leave behind.” We must open our hearts and minds to experience all that our forefathers experienced. It’s not enough to talk about their stories, we must enter into this full-bodied supernatural faith in Christ Jesus (Eph 1:17-21 & Col 1:9-14).

Belonging To God by Faith

Veggie Burrito Nuremberg

Image via Wikipedia

I was reading Romans 4 looking to God for some wisdom about my purpose in life. I always find myself saying, “God, why don’t you make the purpose of my life clear like you did with men and women of the bible?” I love how Paul pulls out the stories of our forefathers and totally dissects their story. Here we get some insight from Paul about Abraham and how he stumbles across his life’s purpose.

Just when I think I’m justified in asking a question like “Why God why?”, I get another point of view. Paul goes into great detail about the role of faith and what comes first; faith or righteousness. Boiled down, I think most would define rightousness as fulfulling God’s purpose for your life. With rightousness described in these terms, righteousness could be coined as “success with God.” In America, success is always the ultimate goal. Real results and success are good things, but the bible gives a different definition of righteousness. In Romans 4, Paul says Abraham had faith in God and his plan to prosper him. The righteousness (results and success) didn’t come first, faith did. Faith in what though… God’s plan? How did Abraham come to know his life’s purpose? Isn’t that the question we are all searching for in some way, shape or form?

There’s no magical formula to hearing God. Some ways we know work for sure is reading God’s written Word (the Bible), praying (and listening), and wise counsel (friends who tell us the truth no matter what) are just a few. In Abraham’s story, God contacted him. Now let me just share a thought about that. So many of us want the “pie in the sky” kind of experience to hear from God about our lifes’ grand purpose. Can I suggest God had to get a hold of our forefathers in a big way because they were relatively satisfied with life. How many of us can say the same thing… we’re “relatively satisfied” plugging away right here, right now. Was Abraham looking for God to speak to him… maybe, maybe not. Let this blow your mind: I do know for a fact people find things they’re looking for more often than they find things they’re not looking for. So the question is, “Are you looking and listening?”

Finally, is this concept of belonging. Once we hear from God the question is, “Are we praying it and obeying it?” If what you hear from God isn’t more than just a night of bad gas from the burrito you ate, it sure as heck is going to change your life. See, praying about something is a way of thinking about it with God… a term the bible call meditating. Advertising companies call this phenomina, “top of mind awareness,” and they’ll pay millions of dollars to keep their brand on the forefront of your mind! If praying is remembering, obeying is trusting God to bring your life purpose into existence. Let us never forget we serve a God who calls those things that be not as though they were (Rom 4:17). Take comfort in the fact that God’s the boss. The Boss has a dream/purpose for every person, and it’s our great privlage to discover our Creator’s blue prints for our life. When we ask, seek, and knock with faith like Abraham (See Abrahams faith described) we are belonging to God. In John 3:29 it says we belong to Christ by listening to his voice.

My prayer for you is that God would open your eyes, ears, and heart to receive his Kingdom. May you hear his voice and be filled with his joy!

Gateway to the Supernatural: Radical Obedience

Let’s play a little “what if” game for a few minutes. I read a great article last night, and honestly it back doored me a bit. It’s funny I use the “back door” reference here, because I’ve noticed I always get some good stuff from God when this happens. Anyway, here’s the big ”what if” question.

What if… (when we read the Bible) we stopped asking, “What does this mean” and ask “How can I obey.”

On the outside this question isn’t really striking, but if you hash it out a little it’s pretty profound. Let’s grab an example:  Proverbs 29:7 says,
“The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.” What did this scripture mean to people in the time it was spoken? Well, that sounds like a silly question to ask. Thinking about how the people lived during the time this scripture was recorded may lead to some cool revelation, but it’s just the wrong question to ask!

I believe Christians (myself included) spend too much time thinking about what a certain scripture means and not enough time obeying what we read. If our heart’s desire is to see “the Kingdom come and his will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” we must obey. Obedience is about positioning. When we obey, we’re positioning  ourselves through partnership with Holy Spirit to receive supernatural power to accomplish the task at hand.

What’s the cost?
Obedience can be unnerving. Praying for the sick to be healed, sharing the Kingdom with strangers, giving a prophetic word, or just really caring for someone makes me nervious. The cost seems high, but I know reward is eternal. Still a little voice in my mind says, “I’m affraid.”, ”Where do I start?”, “Can I create a ministry out of this?”, “Will I be recognized by others for this?” Seriously… when I search my heart for barriers, this is the stuff I find!?!

Examples
All the great people we read about in the bible have one major thing in common; they search for ways to obey God. I think the bible is mysterious to so many people because we can’t quite bring ourselves to obey it. I think about Abraham, Peter, King David, and the prophets and how they’re always laying it on the line for God not matter the cost. I always wonder what the months, days, and hours were like for these pioneers leading up to the ”big” events we read about. I’m sure there’s nothing strangely clever about the wisdom they received from God.

Weird is Good!
Imagine for a second the story of the battle of Jericho. If I was drawing up a plan to take out a city with a dangerous army, I would not march around their walls once a day for seven days blowing a horn, all capped with a loud William Wallace scream. As weird as this plan sounded, this was the one God chose to deliver to Joshua through an angel, the Commander of Heaven‘s Army. It’s these crack pot ideas that come to us and reveal the heart of God. We read about justice for the poor, world hunger, etc… and then comes, ”Go serve dinner at the Salvation Army soup kitchen.” What!?! What’s that all about? We say to ourselves, “I’m going to put an end world hunger by working the soup kitchen?” No, but you’re going to put an end to somebody’s hunger tonight. It’s in these ludicrous opportunities of obedience we can see what Jesus sees as important… and then do something about it.

How about you… do you search for ways to obey?

What is True Prophecy?

To many people the prophetic gifting is as foreign as reading Chinese. The purpose of the prophetic gift is to hear God, and to break off the limitations of man within the Church. The prophetic gifting can be misinterpreted as type of witchcraft, or set of New Age teachings that cause well-intentioned people to go the wrong direction. There are also many people who have been negatively impacted by the practice of the prophetic within their church experience, and so they choose not to listen or accept any kind of prophetic word.

I always thought it was interesting that when God created man, he also created the potential for sin by allowing the tree of the fruit of good and evil to be in the Garden of Eden. It’s like saying there’s a giant piece of chocolate cake sitting right in front of you, but you can’t eat it! I would say the prophetic creates a similar situation in that using it opens it up to a less than perfect communicator (a person has their own problems brought on by sin). Despite the pitfalls of the prophetic, I believe the benefits far outweigh the risks.

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 says, “1Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. 2For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.[b] 3But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[c] but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues,[d] unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.”

I’ve heard several pastor/teachers try to demystify the gift of prophecy as simply preaching from the pulpit. Teaching a relevant insight from Scripture is an aspect of prophecy, it’s just not the full form of it. It’s kind of like being pregnant isn’t the full form of pregnancy. Fortunately the Bible is chock full of great teaching on the gift of prophecy, and the administration of the gift within the corporate body (I’ll hit more on these scriptures in future posts).

My Journey

I believe I aptly fit my mom’s infamous quote, “Jack of all trades, and master of none.” Really I’ve been on a journey for quite some time. Like most, I was zealous in my faith starting at about 18. My plan was to attend some kind of Bible College because that “dang university” just didn’t offer the classes I was interested in… Jesus 101. About that time I got really involved in a campus ministry called Campus Crusade. This sort of filled my hunger for more, but I was captivated by “the call” to true ministry in a church. So I joined the staff of the little Presbyterian Church I’d volunteered at for two years.

All was fine and good until I noticed how poorly Christians treated Christians…in a church building no less (a term I coined as friendly fire). Now before I go off the edge, I have no real beefs with any expression of church… the last sentence was really the agitator that caused me to think twice about traditional church ministry. Many cool people sowed into me at the Presbyterian church, and I am grateful for their influence in my life. None the less, I couldn’t shake all the friendly fire I was receiving for reaching out to the low income families around our church. See, for years our little Presbyterian church attracted the community’s white collar folks, so investing in the at-risk teens could expose the other youth to destructive influences. It was about this time I really started to question the call to be Christ’s disciple (thank you Nooma DVDs).

After I stepped down as youth director to go back and finish college I decided the Lord wasn’t calling me as a reformer of the denominational. So with much prayer I left for greener pastures. This new church was/is a bustling cutting edge non-denominational church in our town… yet despite all the flair, my wife and I choose it because we were part of one of their small groups while I was working at the Presbyterian church (hold it… I had permission from the senior pastor:). Seriously though, we chose the hip church first and foremost because of the friendships we had. Our simple core desire for community slowly gave way to the exciting performance of weekly services. Since the leader of our small group was the youth pastor and a personal friend of mine, he quickly recruited me to hop on board as co-youth pastor. I kindly declined my friend’s offer while I spent time mourning my move… or something like that!?! Before I knew it I was off again in youth ministry, loving kids and sharing the gospel. I hoped with all hope I would get a paid position, but this growing church focused on new believers didn’t really collect enough money to create another position. We talked about several different and creative options for bank rolling this endeavor, but nothing really ever came to fruition.

Constantly scheming for finances started to wear on me, college was boring me again, and my job at the local Boys & Girls Club was stale. I just had this profound ache for Jesus. I needed the power of his presence again. In March of 2008 I picked up an old dusty copy of Redmoon Rising off my shelf for reading material on a plane ride. Bam! I was smitten again with the wild organic and passionate love of Jesus for the first time in God knew how long. By this time I was becoming leery of implementing the next best ministry plan discovered by Such-and-such church in Big City, USA. I wanted Jesus. I wanted to pray. I wanted to worship until my eyes popped out. The only problem was there we no 24-7 prayer rooms within 500 miles of my awesome little town.

So strapped with my first Holy Spirit vision, I set off to build a 24-7 prayer room. I really never had the gumption to lead this movement; I would have been delighted to just participate in “someone else’s thing.” News of this prayer extravaganza leaked out into the community and every charismatic Christian came running. It was dubbed the beginning of the ”new revival” that had long been prophesied in our region. There was a ton of excitement, but the little ex-Presbyterian man had no idea what was going on. I was still like, “Excuse me, did you just say prophecy?” Wild times for sure.

So here I am. I’m four years removed from full-time ministry in a denominational church. I’m 18 months removed from the “mini-revival”. I’m 8 months removed from meeting a crazy Mexican (love ya Gallo) from California with a vision for planting house churches, working as a cell phone salesman by day and house church planter, communications specialist for this site by night. As zany as this tale might be, I’m closer now to the heart of Jesus than ever before. Not only that, but now I’m accountable to this one guiding principle. Before I can wiggle my big toe, or bat my eyes in the morning, I need the Spirit to guide and direct as I lay hold of the treasures of his Kingdom. This is my story and I’m sticking to it!

The Year of the Seer — Part 1

In the coming season of authority we must keep our soul clean. Based on the Hebrew calendar, this coming Jewish new year (September 8, 2010) marks the year of the Seer. So the question is how do we prepare, experience, and live in this season of history?

Prepare:
We must keep our soul clean. Just like we read in Revelation, there are distinct times and seasons for angels of the Lord to blow trumpets and pour out bowls into the earth. Our God has an awesome ordering for everything he is doing. There is a great intention to detail in every generation. In the PR mag Jeph goes into greater detail about our spirit, soul and body. We receive revelation from Holy Spirit through our spirit. Now just because we picked up something in the spirit doesn’t mean we will interpret it correctly. Once the revelation comes into our spirit we begin to attach words to what we see. When we describe what we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell the revelation has entered our soul. Two key things happen in the soul: revelation takes form as we give it definition, and a grown builds in us to birth what is unseen into the seen world. We must keep our soul clean because the things we expose (and have exposed) ourselves to can distort how we interpret what we see in the Spirit. Nothing infuriates satan more than God’s children receiving insight to operate in their creative destinies. You better bet your bottom dollar satan will be tightening the screws, and increasing his attack. Keep a watchful eye on your soul, and resist the triggers that cause you to walk in carnality. Speaking through King Solomon, the Lord says it like this, “ Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” And  James reminds us we have power when satan is pulling our strings, ”Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Runways and Landing Pads

Runways and landing pads are path ways and doors we leave open to the enemy. We have several examples of godly men leaving a doorway open into their lives and also to their family lines. Satan’s objective is to distort our destiny -not just in the current generation, but to scar, maim, or pervert every generation that follows. The Bible lists Satan’s priorities as killing, stealing, and destroying. Two examples that come to me right off hand are the stories ofNoah and King David. Both of these men represent God’s promise seed, and both of these men open up a runway for Satan to come and to corrupt their family line. These patriarchs’ stories are graphic examples which illustrate the evil intentions of the Satan towards God’s children, and also the redeeming plan and power of God to restore his prized creation.

Noah’s story takes an interesting twist when his first his project after the flood is to plant a vineyard. When his fields begin to yield its harvest, Noah decides to make wine from its fruit. Noah then proceeds to drink until he’s completely inebriated. Scripture puts it this way,
“Then he drank the wine was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. And Ham, father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. So Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him. Then he said: cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants he shall be to his brothers.” Gen 9:21-25

A couple questions to reflect on:
1.) What runways and landing pads have you left open in your life?
2.) What runways and lading pads have family members opened up that you’ve had no control of?

If your past has a way of haunting your present and future, I pray you would keep coming back to this blog for the next month or so. This is a several part series (I’ll post every Monday) I believe God will use to bring healing and deliverance to you and your family line. Feel free to post comments and questions, and I’ll do my best to get back to each one.

Blessings!

It is Already Done!

I love when the Lord gives me two or more witnesses of Him at work, don’t you?

This last weekend, that is just what He did. He was trying to get a point across and He did it in a way that I could not help but notice. He was showing me once again He does not leave things unfinished. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is our great healer and He has already done all He needs to do.

My friend Crystal (who is like my own daughter) fell during an exercise program she was participating in this last week. She thought she sprained her ankle. She had her Uncle take a look at her ankle, he is a physician’s assistant and he told Crystal that the ankle was not sprained but it was broken. Crystal’s ankle would need an x-ray, cast or boot and possibly even surgery depending on how bad the break was.

Crystal’s Aunt wanted to go to a healing meeting that night. Crystal’s Uncle had told Crystal there was no way she would be able to walk on her ankle until she had went through the process he described for her healing. Crystal told her Aunt she wasn’t going to go forward or ask for prayer on the way into the meeting. . She sat with her swollen, painful ankle on a chair in front of her. She listened to the speaker, how he went through a process with the Lord. The speaker had done everything he possible could to get the Lord to release healing through him. He prayed, fasted and begged the Lord to no avail. He could not understand why the Lord would not answer his cries. The Lord finally told him that He had already done all there was to be done. When Crystal heard him say those words “the healing was already done”, she unwrapped her foot, which was like unwrapping those old grave clothes, (taking away her old thinking) got up and walked. Her foot was totally healed.

Crystal shared this testimony with me right after I had listened to a testimony about a woman who God did a creative miracle for. He created a brand new top lip for her after an accident she had with her dog. Her dog and her bumped into each other and he actually bit off half of her top lip. Her physician said it was impossible to regenerate a top lip but, she believed that the Lord’s provision was already there and all she needed to do was have faith in what “He had already done.” She stood in faith for 6 months believing she would receive a new lip and that is exactly what happened.

Is there an area of your life that God has already made a provision for but you need your faith activated so you can really hear in your spirit, “it is already done?”

Open our eyes and ears Lord so we can activate our faith to receive. We believe that You have already taken care of everything we need. You are our provision.

Thank you Lord!

Christ in You the Hope of Glory

Christ in you the hope of Glory
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the
Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” – Habakkuk 2:14
It ‘s like when we were born into the Kingdom of God there was
a seed planted in us. When we release that Kingdom seed
outside of us it manifests into life, which in turn causes that seed to
increase in us. Now that seed becomes more powerful inside of us to release
more life.
Years ago I had a experience where there
was a movement that started down in my stomach. I felt it move
up through my body and come out of me and moved upward
above me. At the same time a weight of movement was coming down
From above me. As these two movements came together there was a
big explosion. I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit speak to me.

“When this happens there is nothing that is impossible
.”

Out of us flow rivers of Living Waters…
You are a garden spring a will of fresh water and streams
flowing from Lebanon.” -Song of Songs 4:15
My friend Chris and I both had this same vision.
There were flowing bright sparkling colors and it was as if
These colors were alive.
Out of this experience came this song…
I am the hope of His glory
I am the hope of His glory
Christ in me. Christ in me.
The hope of His glory.
There is a kingdom that has been setup in me.
And in this kingdom is a river that sets me free.
Flowing, flowing in me.
There is this river, it is in me.
It will flow through me to bring healing to me.
There is this river, it is in me.
Bringing healing to the blind, to the lame and setting the captives free.
It is a resurrected life giving Spirit.
That is the river and river is in me.
I am the hope of His glory
I am the hope of His glory
Christ in me. Christ in me.
The hope of His glory
There is a kingdom that has been setup in me
And in this kingdom is a river that sets me free.
Flowing, flowing in me.
Oh, can’t you see that this river is in you.
Can’t you see, can’t you see.
Please look the captives need you to see.
The blind need you to see.
The lame need you to see.
You need to see to be FREE.
That river is in you and me.

Time For Snow White To Release The Sound!

This morning while sitting with the Lord, He showed me a vision. I saw Snow White dancing in a forest, and her dance partner was a tree. His limbs were arms and they danced in a clearing. The tree’s face was a clock, and as they danced Snow White began to sing, as in the movie, “ahh haaa ahhhh haha”. As she sang this song, nature began to respond to her voice. The birds came around and chirped and landed in the tree and took flight from the tree and it was a lovely sight.

I don’t remember the movie Snow White very well, so I went to You Tube to find a clip. There is a song called  With A Smile And A Song, and it begins with Snow White on the ground, her face buried and she is crying. The birds and forest creatures have gathered around her, and as she looks up, she explains that if they only knew what she had been through, they would understand her fuss.

I feel this is a picture of our time. Snow White, the bride of Christ, each of us, has been through our own trauma, our own hard times and hurts, but I feel the Lord saying it is time to lift our faces from the ground. It is time to stand up, and be who HE has called us to be. When we stand up and praise anyway, when we declare who we are, and who God has called us to be, all of creation is waiting to respond. All of heaven and earth are in waiting to carry out the sound that comes from within each of us. The invitation has been sent, and the ball is in our court.

There are some of us who have buried our face in shame, thinking we have missed our time, but the Lord says “Arise, shine; for the light has come! And the Glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”

If you could just imagine the angels standing ready, waiting for your words, waiting to capture them as they come from your mouth into the atmosphere and as the angels grasp the words you speak, as quick as a blink they are off and setting all things into motion for the coming of their fulfillment.

Who are you in Christ? What is yearning to come forth from your belly? What desire is hidden within you that God has planted from the beginning? What part of His Body are you?

“I am a writer….”, “I deliver the word of the Lord…”, “I have gifts to share with the up and coming generation that will build God’s army…”, “I have songs to release into the world…”…..What is in you?

It is time to declare it, and let it be. Call those things forth that are not, as if they are, and they shall be. The atmosphere is anointed to create.

Speak It Into Existence!

A cigarette butt, lying in dirty snow.

In this time frame that we are living in right now, while the atmosphere is ready and waiting to create the things that we speak, I’d like to share a testimony of what this has looked like for me.

A few years ago I heard Joyce Meyers talking about how she quit smoking. I was interested in this, because when God delivered me from drug addiction, I was unable to lay down the cigarette addiction.

I tried fasting from smoking, thinking if I could get past the first few days I’d just lay them down all together. I don’t think I made it 2 full days without a cigarette. I tried the patches, but smoked right along with them. I tried the prescription drugs that I saw others manage to quit with, but I could not quit.

So when Joyce Meyers spoke about how she quit, I listened. She said she simply claimed that she was a non-smoker, even as she lit a cigarette and smoked it. She spoke the words out loud, and finally she was a nonsmoker.

I began declaring that I was a nonsmoker. I would just say it out loud. I did not see results though for two years. But what began to happen as I made the declaration was that things were being put into place. My habits began to change over time, so that when it was time to let go of the cigarettes, I was set up for success.

I made a choice to quit smoking in my house, which may sound like an easy thing to do, but for me it was not. This was something I had never done since the time I was 16 years old and had started smoking. A year later I got a new van. It was so nice that I chose not to smoke in it either. Another thing I had never done before in my life. I did not realize that these things were setting me up for success. Finally, ten months after not smoking while driving, I asked God one day, “When will I know that You have set me free?”

Within a day of me writing that in my journal, I traveled to Yakima Washington with a group of people to a prophetic worship conference hosted by Michael Danforth, and my first night there an 11 year old boy told me that the Lord would like me to quit smoking. I have not had a cigarette since.

The time that we are in is a time of declarations being manifested. This testimony is a picture of what it looks like, but the atmosphere is so thick with Gods anointing that things will begin to manifest even as we speak them!

Declare!! Speak into your destiny, and watch it rise with the Son.

God’s Attitude Toward A Sinner

Most born-again believers are familiar with God’s attitude toward the sinner – He longs for none to perish and gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, so that through Him we might be saved. Outstanding!  Is grace awesome?  Yeah!  Is seeing the sick healed amazing?  You know it!  Is waking up and knowing that you are eternally blessed overwhelming?  YES!  You know this, I know this, yet why is the Kingdom of God not being pursued with violence and force.  Why aren’t the sick coming to us, why aren’t the blind finding their way to us, why do most people run the opposite way when they hear or see a Christian coming? Chances are they have a belief that God’s attitude toward them is one of hell and wrath, or boring and the same-old-same-old.

Most people get involved with something or make a commitment to be a part of something because of the benefits.  Benefits make the difference.  How many of your decisions are based on the benefit factor?  God has some  amazing benefits that we need to be bring up in more of our daily lives and encounters with others.  I love what David gives us as an example here in Psalm 103:1-5.

Ps 103:1-5  Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:  who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases,  who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. NKJV

When was the last time you spoke to your soul like David is speaking to his here in this Psalm?  Try it, right now.  Say, “soul, bless the Lord and remember all His benefits.”  Powerful!  Try that for one week, and see if things aren’t different.  People are going to notice something different about you.  When they ask, just share with them the benefit package you got when you said yes to Jesus.

Reminding you who you are!

Tower of Babel

Image via Wikipedia

There’s been lots of speculation as to what happened in this very vague and downright weird exchange between Ham and Noah. Some have said that Ham had sexual relations with Noah while he was unaware. Others have said that Ham had relations with Noah’s wife while he was drunk and passed out. What exactly happened between Noah and Ham is uncertain, but best method of discovery lies in tracing out the history of the family lines. When Noah pronounced a curse on Canaan, we know that he is talking about the same people groups the Israelites fought against under the command of Joshua. It’s safe to say the land of Canaan has been and still is a hub for demonic activity. (What I’m about to write is by no means an exact or comprehensive list) Tracing the bloodlines of the people groups and locations creates a “Who’s Who” list that goes something like this: Sodom, Gomorrah, Goliath and his brothers, the Philistines, King Nimrod, the Tower of Babel, Babylon, Baal, the list laid out to Abraham: the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites. Even today these areas are centers of very serious resistance against Christians and Jews.  As you can see tracing out the Ham’s descendants may not tell us what happened that strange night with Noah, but the lifestyle he passed on to his children was not good.

Questions for healing:
1.) Do you live a lifestyle that is poisonous to you and the people you love?

2.) Has a way of life been passed down to you that hurt you and the people you love?

This is a several part series (I’ll post every Monday) I believe God will use to bring healing and deliverance to you and your family line. Feel free to post comments and questions, and I’ll do my best to get back to each one.

Blessings,

Disconnect to Reconnect

Twenty-four years ago I got a call, “your sister needs us now.” My mom and I rushed to her home where my sister Kim lived and we came upon a scene I really wouldn’t want to see again. My sister Kim after months of morning sickness that was like having a constant flu was losing so much blood that it looked impossible for her to even still be pregnant. We called the doctor and he said that her body had naturally aborted the baby. We wrapped my sister up and took her to my house, laid her down and put her feet up. At this point  we refused to believe the baby was gone and my Mom and I went to war (which of course now we recognize was the leading of the Holy Spirit). We let the enemy know under no circumstances was he going to take what was ours and this baby was ours. Ashlee Marie Pottenger was our first miracle baby and I would say we disconnected any right the enemy thought he had to this precious little one.

Over the past few months since Ashlee shared her engagement to Scott O Malley we have been anticipating this last weekend. Ashlee was marrying the love of her life. We had wedding showers and all the things that go into making this the most special occasion for this young couple. Ashlee parent’s had been praying for the right mate since she was born and at the shower Scott’s mom shared that since he was five years old his father and her had been praying the same thing. I was amazed how blessed Ashlee was to have two strong Christian families uniting to witness the covenant these young people were making before God.

Well this weekend all the hard work Ashlee, Scott and their families put in paid off and it was a wedding to remember. The bride was stunning; the groom only had eyes for her. The attendants were joyous and the witnesses were in awe. Her Father gave her away and officiated the ceremony at the same time and everyone there knew of this couples commitment to Christ first. This wedding was Ashlee’s dream but not her purpose. Her purpose was to disconnect as Ashlee Pottenger and reconnect as Scott’s bride. When her parents gave Ashlee to Scott so she could as the word says “leave and cleave” it was with no reserve.

The day after the wedding Ashlee posted on Facebook, “Please refer to me as Mrs. O Malley from here on out.” Ashlee disconnected to her single past and connected to her future as Mrs. O Malley. Many marriages fail because the individuals can not let go of their past and go forward into their future. Ashlee’s eagerness to be Mrs. O Malley  makes my heart glad; because I know she is ready to connect with her future as the two shall be one.

Often when I worship I will hear the Lord speak. A couple weeks ago I heard, “disconnect to reconnect.” A couple days later I went onto the Prophetic River web site and listened to the live stream and a well known prophet was prophesying. He prophesied the exact same words the Lord had spoke to me during worship, “disconnect to reconnect.” Now the Lord had really caught my attention and I began to ask what does that mean, “disconnect to reconnect?”

As I was asking the Lord what to share I felt he wanted me to leave you with this challenge. Will you pray and ask if there is an area you need to disconnect to reconnect? He has assured me that this needs to be done on all kinds of levels and that it will be personal to each person. Ashlee and Scott’s future and how they face life as one, under a new covenant they made before Christ depended on them disconnecting from what had been the structure of their lives to a new connection as man and wife, pretty simple but really a new identity.

I believe for some the Lord is wanting a disconnect from your past to reconnect with your future, also the “battle” 24 years ago laid the foundation for a incredible future! What do you need to be contending for in your life? And your future!

God bless,

Sheryl

Inherit the Earth

Heart Candle

As I continue to mediate on Psalm 103:1-5 and all the benefits that come through grace, I’m caught up by the power of our tongues.  Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Prov. 18:21).  In the third chapter of James, the tongue is compared to the likeness of a rudder and its ability to maneuver an entire ship.  Meaning our tongues maneuver our bodies.

Jesus said in Mt. 15:11 that it’s not what goes into the mouth that defiles the man, but what comes out of the mouth that defiles.  A few chapters later He expands on this and links our words to our heart.

So as we lay this course out what we discover is that death and life are issues of our heart.  We bring those issues into existence by what we speak.  We conceive blessings and cursings in our heart and our mouth reveals what’s in our heart.

David knew this, he knew that we can say something nice with our lips, but be filled with the opposite spirit in our heart.  This is why he so adamantly reminds his soul to bless the Lord, to not forget all His benefits.

God also knows that what we say with our lips may not be the truth of our heart.  He sees what no one sees – our inner most thoughts and intents.  This inward look of God provokes a deeper revelation of grace, and with an ever increasing revelation should come an ever increasing humility.

By taking a step toward remembering God’s grace as David did, humility and meekness overtake us.  The promised inheritance for the humble and meek is the earth (Mt. 5:5).  So to our list of benefits: forgives all our iniquities, heals all our diseases, redeems our life from destruction, crowns us with loving kindness and mercy, and satisfies our mouths so we are renewed in strength, we add inherits the earth.

As for me and my household we shall bless the Lord, oh my soul.

Reminding you of who you are.

Noah cursing Canaan (illustration by Gustave D...

Image via Wikipedia

Let’s recap: Noah isn’t just any regular Joe Schmoe. This is the guy God chose to reboot all of human civilization. So in other words, Noah is kind of a big deal. Not only that, but Noah and his family are the chosen seed in which the Messiah would come from. It’s always been very clear that Lucifer, as splendid as he was, could not be God. So when he and a third of all of the angels decided to rebel against God, they essentially chose to be completely separated from the presence and glory of God. The story gets very interesting when the Godhead decides to create humans in his own image. Sometimes this gets lost in translation, but it’s a very important detail in understanding why there’s so much animosity between Satan and the human race. Chronologically speaking, God and the angels came before creation. This means that God cast Lucifer out of heaven prior to creation. Queue Adam and Eve: God creates man and woman in his own image. Here’s the part you don’t learn in most seminaries or local churches: The role Lucifer’s plays in God’s economy prior his rebellion is literally handed over to Adam and Eve. Just stop and stew on that for a second. That makes me wonder, “How did Lucifer feel about that?” Needless to say that’s why the Bible describes Satan as the enemy of the children of God. His goal is to steal, kill, and destroy our relationship and standing with God. He’s very crafty though. He chose to masquerade as a bearer of truth and enlightenment, all the while seeking to blot out the knowledge of the existence of a loving God. Here lies the lesson: Noah created a runway for evil to penetrate his family line when he got drunk. I believe God is giving people today the power and the authority to step in and cut off perversions, strongholds, and influences that had been allowed to penetrate their family line. I believe that God is giving his people dreams, visions, encounters, and special prophetic insights to go back in time if need be and close the doors of demonic influence for themselves and their families.

Activation:

Get some paper and a pen, put on a little light instrumental music, and submit your imagination to God.  Begin asking God for dreams and special vision and revelation into your past and family line and write down whatever comes to mind.

You could also: Ask parents or grandparents about your family, or do some research online to see what you can find. You can’t hit what you can’t see…
